What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxPittsburgh, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPittsburgh event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Visit TEDx
About TEDxPittsburgh
POWER
Power is a word without boundaries. In a practical sense, it is the business of hundreds of thousands of people dedicated to bringing energy, convenience, and comfort to our daily lives. In a broader sense, it encompasses all of humanity as the measure of peoples' ability to control and influence their environment and destiny.
In November a group of regional leaders took a journey from the cosmic implications of power to the subatomic; from the philosophical to the practical; from work in Brazil, China, Haiti, and the UAE to the power that resides inside each of us. The presentations are captured through forty-five or so videos featured here. As you peruse these videos you will find illuminating perspectives on:
- Nanocrystal-based dyads for solar voltaic conversion
- Measurement of gravitational waves in the universe
- Applying microbiology to bring power to challenging environments
- Future interactions between humans and computers
- Perspectives on the use and limitations of international political power
- As well as the power of belief, art, inspiration, words, countdowns, hallucinations, and questions - and more than 20 others
TEDxPittsburgh is dedicated to placing intriguing ideas and perspectives before the receptive minds of intellectually curious people who have both the ability to see possibilities and the capability to nurture those possibilities into new and better realities. If you are reading this, you are probably one of those people.
We invite you to view these videos and join us on our continuous exploration. Just roll your cursor over the image and click to launch the video.
